Microsoft continues to strongly support the post-launch of Xbox Series X. Not only does Xbox Games Studios continue to increase game production, but the Xbox team is working hard to polish the Xbox console experience with fixes and patches. On Thursday afternoon, Xbox developers confirmed that the October update for Xbox Series X was ready and with it several key new features. Perhaps the most exciting addition is an update to the Xbox Series X dashboard, boosting its resolution up to 4K.
Until now, the Xbox Series X has used a 1080p board upgraded to 4K resolution. That means the Xbox Series Xs menus, its Guide, and overall user interface haven't been native 4K since launch, although the upgraded dashboard was visually impressive regardless. Moving forward, the Xbox Series Xs dashboard will be native 4K for those with a 4K-capable TV or monitor. In practice, that means that elements of the user interface, including game art, buttons and other elements on the board, will have "greater clarity and better readability of the text." The 4K Dashboard Update on Xbox Series X is available starting today. Next up on the Xbox October update feature list is a major addition for accessibility. The Xbox team has now added what it calls Night Mode for Xbox consoles. Night mode includes several adjustable options for Xbox users who may be using the console in low-light or light-sensitive environments. Options include a dimmer and blue light filtering for your screen, as well as an adjustable brightness slider for an Xbox console power button and an Xbox controller logo button.

The last major feature of the October update is what the Xbox team calls Quick Settings. Quick Settings can be accessed from the Xbox Guide, rather than requiring an Xbox console user to navigate through the various dashboard menus to find their settings. This way, players can quickly adjust settings, including console accessibility options, while still in the game. All in all, it's a solid update for Xbox console owners that includes some cool features for everyone. Night mode and quick access should offer useful improvements that all Xbox console users can appreciate. 4K may be exclusive to Xbox Series X / S users, but it's a sign that the Xbox team will continue to move forward if Xbox users upgrade to a new 4K console or display.
Expect the Xbox development team to continue to evaluate and add features month by month in the future. As always, Xbox users can apply to become Xbox Insiders members, allowing them to participate in beta testing for upcoming Xbox features. Details on Xbox's future plans should be shared in the coming weeks and months.
